CAREGIVER OF THE MONTH – April 2015

Are you familiar with the baseball term “utility player”? This is a coveted label for a baseball player and a coach’s dream come true. In this world of specialization, most baseball players pick a defensive position to play while they are still in little league. Maybe they like the outfield where their speed comes in handy, or they have a great glove and playing short stop is their choice. Though rare, some athletes are just so talented that they can play any position and that gives the coach tremendous options for defensive strategies or covering an impromptu injury to a key player. We call that a “deep bench”.
Our April Caregiver of the Month is just such a superstar for our team at Gauthier Family Home Care. Ruby Broome can play any position, at any home, for any set of client needs that can possibly arise. She is that talented, experienced and flexible! She is a scheduler’s dream come true!
Ruby came to us after several years of doing live-in work in the Chicago area. Prior to that she owned and operated her own AFC (Adult Foster Care) Home. In our weekly scheduling meetings over the last year, whenever we have had an important shift that needed to be filled, Ruby’s name inevitably came up. And each placement was followed by the same client feedback, “Ruby is so great, my mother loves her”!
We just had another similar experience with a new client 10 days ago. That comment, direct from the client was “I think Ruby might be the nicest person I have ever met”. How do you beat that? You don’t; you just thank your lucky stars that Ruby is part of your team.
And you spread that talent all over the field! Right now Ruby is working at 4 different clients each week. She is about as busy as a person can be, but if we end up with an emergency and call her to fill a shift with only a few hours of notice, she nearly always works it out to cover the shift.
You’ve heard it before, but it bears repeating. Our agency is only as good as our caregivers are. Our reputation is built on the committed, dedicated professionals that keep our clients safe and vibrant in the comfort of their own homes. Ruby has taken such great care of so many of our clients over the last year that I am confident if you asked those clients what they think of our agency, they would ALL recommend us highly. For that Ruby, my most sincere appreciation goes out to you!
