CAREGIVER OF THE MONTH – November 2015
Some folks just mature faster than others. And then some are just what my family calls “an old soul”; those folks that have a maturity and calmness 
about them that belies a spirit that has been around for a very long time. Emmett Miller III, our November Caregiver of the Month, is “an old soul”.
Emmett is, in our industry, an anomaly. First, male caregivers account for less than 5% of the workforce. Second, he is very young, and we have found over the years that “life experience” is very important in terms of giving caregivers perspective in dealing with the challenges inherent in caring for our senior community.
Emmett was looking for evening and weekend hours because he goes to school during the week. When we interviewed Emmett, we knew he had the gift, and we worked hard to place him as quickly as we could. As it turns out, the first opportunity was with a complicated case, in a full nursing facility. He had to overcome his youth, win over the client AND the staff at the facility. He handled both of those challenges in a very short amount of time and has become a steady and reliable member of the team for this client, as well as filling in for another client at the same facility.
And that “filling in” part is what has earned Emmett this award. Several times in September and October we ran into last minute emergencies covering overnight shifts for another client. In spite of the fact that Emmett works first and second shifts for us, we asked him to cover these overnight shifts and he enthusiastically accepted the challenge.
Some folks are wired to focus on the task at hand and assume that “there are no problems, only solutions”. That is how Emmett operates. He jumped in, took care of business, and our client’s care was maintained at our high standard.
Please join me in congratulating Emmett on being a most professional home care professional. We are very fortunate he is on our team, but more importantly, our clients are benefitting from his outstanding performance as a caregiver. THANK YOU EMMETT!
