Enjoying the Super Bowl with your Elderly Loved One

Lowell, MI – Enjoying the Super Bowl with your Elderly Loved One

America will be celebrating Super Bowl XLIX (49).  This game has been a family tradition for decades, and the viewership continues to grow every year.  Whether your loved one is a football fan or not, this is an opportunity to involve him or her in the festivities.  Here are some great ideas to include your loved one in the activities and ensure that he or she has a fun time watching the game.Elderly Care Lowell MI

Cook and Pregame Together:  Use the pregame time to snack together, enjoy a couple of drinks, and prepare some delicious food that you can both enjoy during the game. If you’re having other guests over, make sure to prepare enough for everyone!

Play a Betting Game: There are several fun and innocent ways to have invested interest in the game without going overboard. A great betting system for the Super Bowl is to have a graph of scores for the two teams (also known as Super Bowl Squares). On a 10×10 grid of squares, members put their names in boxes. Along the side of the box is a number for the last digit for each competing Super Bowl team’s score. If the end of the quarter reveals the score matches the box that you selected, you’re declared the winner!

Play Catch at Halftime: If neither of you care about Katy Perry performing at halftime, you can use this time to toss a ball or football around (and it will give your loved one some fun exercise)!

Super Bowl Bingo: This activity is a nice mix of the day’s events and a game that your elder may already love. With Super Bowl bingo, you simply put a chip down on your bingo card for every event that matches up with the square. Whether it’s a touchdown, a certain commercial, or a distinct play, Super Bowl Bingo gives lots of incentive to follow the game.
