Learn How Harry dealt with Being Lonely

Conquering Boredom and Loneliness with the Proper Senior Care in Grand Rapids, MI

Harry was lonely and bored most of the time these days. He was 78 years old, most of his friends had either passed away or moved closer to family, and he wasn’t really interested in the activities that other seniors took part in at the senior center in town. He didn’t really require much assistance at home, but he recognized the fact that the longer he went feeling lonely and bored, the more depressed he was feeling. That caused him to look into senior care.Senior Care Grand Rapids MI

The first thing that he did was contact senior care referral services in the area to find out where to begin searching for the proper caregiver. He was given a number of home care agencies and their phone numbers and then decided to contact each one. He explained to all of them that he didn’t really require too much assistance, maybe a little help getting up and down the stairs to do laundry or preparing a meal once in a while.

A couple of the agencies told him that they couldn’t help him, while others explained that there was no reason why he shouldn’t get the proper level of senior care that he needed. For Harry, it was more important to have somebody coming to the home on a regular basis than it was to get the laundry done or two prepare a meal that was a little beyond his physical capabilities at the moment.

When the senior care provider showed up for the first time, Harry explained that even though the caregiver would only be there for a couple of hours a day, for a couple of days a week, he would like to play some games or even just talk. During the time that the caregiver was there, she made sure that Harry was doing the laundry and she assisted him with that. She also helped to encourage him to plan out a healthier diet for the week.

The more that they talked, the more Harry realized what he had yet to experience in life. Even though he didn’t need much support from senior care, having that person to talk to and to spend some time with helped him to focus on other activities that he enjoys and he began to do them on his own. That helped to stave off even more boredom and loneliness.

Sometimes senior care can provide far more benefits to the elderly patient than just help getting around the house or being safe.
